Halflings
Core concept
Luck is shared, and it must be tended.
The common luck
Halflings believe luck is real, and that it is not personal but communal: a shared pool that a family or a village holds together. You tend it with small courtesies and small rituals; you spend it with boasting, greed, and needless risk. A Halfling who gambles the household’s fortune on pride hasn’t only risked themselves; they’ve stolen from everyone.
In a realm where fortune does sometimes visibly bend in mortals’ favour (Luck Events), this reads less like superstition than like plain observation.
Rooted and roaming
Halflings are the quiet heart of many Luminian farm villages, and their two kindreds tend luck differently: Stout halflings keep the rooted luck of hearth and harvest, while Lightfoot halflings carry a travelling luck, sharing it road to road.
Friction
Others hear the constant small rituals and call Halflings superstitious. Halflings, in turn, quietly distrust the loud and the grasping, the sort who “spend the whole room’s luck” and never think to put any back.
